AJ McLean is proud of his recent hard work, when it comes to losing weight and getting back in shape.
AJ says he will be sticking with his new healthy lifestyle from now on after losing 27 pounds since the beginning of this year.
“When you get to a certain age, things tend to slow down,” explains the 44-year-old singer. “And even though we haven’t slowed down, your body will at some point start to slow down.”
“If you dedicate the time and you put in the work, anything is possible,” he continues. “For me, it started back when I did Dancing with the Stars [on season 29], that’s when the health kick started.”
However, McLean admits that he has faced some challenges along his healthy journey.
“Then the holidays came, and obviously everyone goes a little harder during the holidays and whatever, and doesn’t exactly stick to a diet,” AJ said.
The boy bander is now putting in the extra effort to stay healthy and he has also opened up about his path to gaining his sobriety.
“I was doing a TV show in South Africa this past February. So between February and now, I’ve lost 27 lbs.,” he says. “And once you get into a routine, and you start to see results and you start to feel better, you sleep better, your mental state of mind is better, your focus is better. You just want to keep that up. You don’t want to go backwards.”
AJ admits that his recent tour has immensely contributed to staying in shape. He and his fellow band members are currently on the European leg of their DNA World Tour, which is scheduled through March 2023 and the five-some also recently dropped their first holiday album, A Very Backstreet Christmas.
“The summer tour helped because the first half was outdoors, and it was playing at 115 degrees,” McLean said. “It’s like 90 percent humidity. So we’re just shedding the weight without even doing anything.”
“People don’t realize … I’m not saying we’re Michael Jordan or we’re Tom Brady, but we are like athletes,” he explains.
Big freaking deal. Not the first and not the last.
