Tory Lanez was taken into custody Tuesday after violating his protective order in the Megan Thee Stallion felony assault case, sources confirmed to Page Six.
Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon tweeted that Lanez was handcuffed inside the courtroom and remanded to custody until he posts a new bail of $350,000.
She also noted that Lanez’s tweets appeared to play a role in the decision of the judge, who demanded that the “Stupid Again” singer “not to mention the complaining witness in this case in any social media.”
A source said the judge noted that Lanez has “continued to harass and intimidate” Megan in the media and that Lanez’s tweets were also taken into account.
Among the violations was the “Say It” singer allegedly leaking information to blogger DJ Akademiks in advance of the Feb. 23 hearing.
A trial date has been set for Sept. 14.
Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, told Page Six Tuesday, “A judge found sufficient evidence of Mr. Peterson’s guilt to order him to stand trial.”
“Additionally, the judge found sufficient evidence today that he violated the order of protection and had him handcuffed in the courtroom. The self-serving noise in this case will not change the facts or prevent this case from proceeding.”
Lanez’s attorney Shawn Holley told us in response to the ruling, “The DA requested that Mr. Peterson’s bail be revoked or, in the alternative, that it be increased to $5 million. We are pleased that the court rejected those outrageous requests.”
In February 2021, a judge ruled that the Canadian rapper was denied the right to publicly comment on the case.
The order came after Lanez said in an Instagram rant in October, “Megan knows what happened, I know what happened, and we know that what you’re saying and that the alleged things and the alleged accusations of my name are not true.”
In August 2021, Lanez, 29, was deemed in violation of his restraining order for performing at Rolling Loud on the same night as Megan, 27. He was ordered to pay a bail of $250,000 at the time in order to remain a free man prior to his trial.
The judge said at that hearing, “We have two high-profile celebrities named as the defendant and the alleged victim in this case,” pointing out that “the last thing I think anyone wants” is for social media to become part of the evidence in the case.
Page Six exclusively reported in July 2020 that Lanez was accused of shooting Megan in the foot while she was “trying to leave” following an argument inside their vehicle.
Lanez pleaded not guilty in November 2020.
