It’s time to reign in all the good cowboys as Shania Twain portrays a topless cowgirl in her latest singles’ cover art.
On Friday, Shania Twain released her first new song in five years, “Waking Up Dreaming” and struck a sultry pose for the single’s cover art.
Twain, 57, posed topless for the shoot, wearing little besides a cowboy hat and a pair of colorful pointy-toed boots.
“I styled that photograph myself. It was all about taking off the bra, taking off the shirt, tying the shirt around my waist,” Twain said. “This is a statement of being comfortable in my own skin and just being really myself.”
The “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” hitmaker also addressed the backlash female artists of a certain age often receive for flashing flesh.
“You have to be strong. I never really get angry with criticism. You can’t please everybody, that’s normal,” she said.
Twain’s friends and fans absolutely loved the cover shot, which she shared on Instagram last week.
Fellow country crooner Orville Peck dropped heart emojis, while “Drag Race” winner Priyanka raved, “WE ARE READY.”
“Gorgeous pic!!” added Marc Bouwer, the fashion designer behind Twain’s iconic 1999 Grammys gown (which Kelsea Ballerini recently borrowed for the 2022 ACM Honors).
The new song comes after Twain joined Harry Styles onstage at Coachella in April for a surprise performance.
Twain is also currently working on a biopic, and hinted at the prospect of a musical on the horizon. A biopic would certainly be entertaining, as she’s led a wild life.
In her Netflix documentary, “Not Just a Girl,” Twain reflected on her divorce from her adulterous ex-husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, who had an affair with her former personal assistant and best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
Twain went on to marry Marie-Anne’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud.
