Jordan Elsass has opened up to talk about what led to him leaving The CW’s ‘Superman & Lois’ show before the third season.
Elsass, 20, who played Jonathan Kent on the network’s show that takes place in the ‘Arrowverse’, said he has been struggling immensely with his mental health.
“It’s been a tough few weeks, as you might imagine, with everything going on with the show,” Elsass said in the video recorded for a fan on Cameo.
“It’s sad; it’s a real shame. I know that I was pumped for Season 3, for sure, but what are you going to do? Anyway, mental health is definitely 100% priority,” he continued.
“There’s no question, it’s pinnacle. It’s got to take precedence. And mine has been … the last couple of years … it’s been rough.”
“I need some time to myself,” he added to his stream of consciousness. “I’m still debating whether I’m even going to act for a while. I may go in a different direction. I know that’s definitely going to be disappointing to some people.
“Not even just like fans, but people in my close circle,” Elsass admitted. “I think that could be disappointing to some people.”
Elsass also said he hasn’t decided if he should return to acting in the future or to start over and try something new.
Warner Bros. TV announced in a statement on Aug. 17 that Elsass would not be returning to the series due to personal reasons. The company said his role will be recast.
Due to mental health issues, Elsass didn’t show up for work in Vancouver where the cast shoots.
Producers were aware of his concerns, but it’s not clear whether Elsass quit or was fired.
