They may seem friendly enough in the public eye, but Prince William and his brother Prince Harry will never truly reconcile.
The heir to the throne just can’t find it in his heart to forgive his brother for opting out of royal life.
This information was revealed by Kate Nicholl, author of “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown,” on TV’s “Dan Wootton Tonight” Thursday.
“He always thought Harry would be his wingman, now he’s doing it on his own. Thank goodness he’s got Kate by his side,” added Nicholl.
The brothers’ once-close relationship began to fray even before Harry married Meghan Markle.
In September 2017, when Harry hinted that he was about to propose to Markle, William reportedly asked, “Why rush things?,” causing Harry to angrily answer, “Who the hell do you think you are?”
Prince Harry and his American-born wife quit royal life in January 2020 and relocated to California.
Their brotherly relationship even hit a further low when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.
In it, Harry said he felt sorry for his father and brother, who were trapped in their royal roles and couldn’t leave as he had, and Markle claimed she had been driven to suicidal thoughts and had been ignored by palace officials.
The Duchess recently added fuel to the fire when she said in an interview that just by existing, she and Harry were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy and that is partly why they stepped away.
She revealed in the interview she never signed anything preventing her from speaking about her experiences with the royal family.
Fans of the royals were hopeful that the brothers could reclaim their once close bond and their relationship could be mended following the death of the Queen earlier this month.
They were delighted when the estranged brothers and their wives emerged from a car to greet crowds gathered outside Windsor Castle, two days after the Queen’s passing.
The four shared 40 minutes viewing a sea of floral tributes laid outside the UK castle and chatted with well-wishers.
Despite this, a source close to Harry shared, “Although being in each other’s company has been uncomfortable for the brothers, everybody is trying their best.”
