Rapper Half Ounce is dead after being shot while walking down the street having a conversation with his pregnant wife on the phone in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department said, “Our Olympic division received numerous radio calls of shots fired, with a man screaming, in the 700 block of South New Hampshire Avenue around 11:30 p.m. local time.”
After police arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot in front of an apartment building.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department declared the victim dead at the scene.
The suspect is still missing and authorities are searching for any added information that could help them. As of now, they believe the suspect took off in a dark-colored SUV. He’s described as a Black male who was wearing dark clothing.
The L.A. County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim is 32-year-old Latauriisha O’Brien, known as rapper Half Ounce.
Police sources said, “O’Brien was walking down the street with a friend when he was shot. An SUV had approached them, with someone in the passenger seat opening fire at O’Brien and his friend, who rushed away from the scene. We are trying to find out who the friend was that was with him.”
“O’Brien was talking on the phone with his wife, who is pregnant with his fourth child, when the SUV pulled up. She heard him being shot and ran to the scene,” police also stated.
O’Brien is a father to two sons, 9 months and 2, as well as a daughter who is 8. His relatives said that his fourth child is due in March 2023.
LAPD Lieutenant John Radtke added, “Authorities are combing through security footage and surveillance video captured by nearby homes. We are working hard to figure out why O’Brien and his friend were in the area when seven to 30 shots were fired.”

Paul Krugman recently touched on the differences between red and blue states. He noted also that the economies that red staters and blue staters live in are drastically different and becoming ever more so. Blue states are becoming, Krugman notes, more productive, have better economies, have better education, and people in general are wealthier.
Then he went on to show how people are dying sooner in red states: the average life expectancy in red states is about four years shorter than in blue states. In a recent NY Times article Paul Krugman wrote, “At this point, blue-state residents can expect to live more than four years longer than their red-state counterparts.” Obesity is higher in red states, fewer people have health care (many red states fought against expansion of Medicaid), and the general education level is lower.
Although this article from Smart Politics is from way back in 2009, as it contrasted states carried by McCain versus those by Obama, it showed a definite contrast in red vs blue state crime statistics. Here:
Eight of the top 11 states with the highest property crime rates voted for McCain: Arizona (#1), South Carolina (#2), Alabama (#4), Tennessee (#6), Georgia (#7), Texas (#8), Arkansas (#10), and Louisiana (#11).
The article points out that although urban centers generally have higher crime rates than rural areas the red vs blue state crime comparison still holds up: red state crime levels are greater than blue despite blue democratic dominance in urban areas.
Using 2017 date, US News listed the safest states to live in and the top ten are loaded with blue states. Only Idaho and Wyoming crack the top ten. Blue states then pick up three out of the next five.
US News also publishes a list of places with the cleanest air. Red states only pick up three of the top ten.
As far as worst drinking water from the tap, the top five (meaning the worst) include three from red states. The worst two were Texas and Florida. (Cf. here, from Pure Foundation which works to bring pure drinking water to under-served areas globally.)
The worst areas to live, in terms of life expectancy and health, as well as crime and economic harm, would be within the red state sections of the country.
I thought he was Half Wit.
