Dean McDermott let some skeletons out of his closet and came clean as to why his marriage fell apart with Tori Spelling.
According to McDermott, it was his alcohol-fueled rages that made Tori call it quits and walk away from their relationship.
McDermott spent the summer in rehab and now lives in a sober home in Woodland Hills, California with eight other men. He is hoping to make a mends with his family and fix what he has broken.
“All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman,” he said.
McDermott, 56, confessed that he would drink a fifth of tequila every night of the week and take a handful of narcotics (prescription meds) by himself, leaving Tori and his kids terrified of him.
“Looking back on what I did, I realize I terrorized my own family. They would run and hide away in our home just to avoid me,” McDermott said. “Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t and I ended up in isolation.”
Dean admits that him and Tori started sleeping in separate rooms since 2017 because of his actions.
“That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling,” Dean added.
Dean hit rock bottom in June and Tori begged him to go get treatment.
“And she helped find Harmony Place and got me in here,” Dean revealed, noting he spent 40 days at the facility.
McDermott admitted he has not seen Tori or his children since the spring, when they moved out of their rental home because of a mold issue, but he has begun texting with Spelling, 50, with hopes of seeing his “beautiful” family soon.
“It’s going to be living the rest of my life making amends because I took something that was really beautiful and I just tore it down year after year, day after day,” he said. “Life happens. It’s tough having kids. It’s tough living in this town, tough, having financial problems.”
McDermott and Spelling have 5 children together; Liam, 16, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, 6.
“It’s just really tough. I’m not making excuses. I certainly had my hand in it in the dissolution of the relationship. But yeah, hasn’t been easy. Nothing in life is easy,” Dean said.
Although McDermott has moved on with girlfriend Lily Calo, 33, he has no regrets about the life he built with Tori.
“It was a total fairytale. I mean, it was a beautiful love story. Love at first sight and getting married in the most beautiful way possible,” he recalled of their Fiji wedding. “It was a dream come true.”
McDermott announced in June, though it’s now unclear if it was before or during his treatment, that he and Spelling were calling it quits on their 17-year marriage.
He subsequently deleted the announcement. Neither has officially filed for divorce.
