Can we say “What a fall from grace” when it comes to Meghan Markle’s latest acting gig!
Markle has been criticized by fans and viewers for her latest acting advertisement for coffee company Clevr Blends.
Markle, 42, plays a hardworking intern in each scene of the video as the beverage brand’s CEO, Hanna Mendoza, gives a tour of their headquarters.
Mendoza walks past Markle, who is lovingly packing lattes with the fulfillment crew, then Mendoza jokingly says, “They’ve been listening to Britney Spears on loop since 2002.”
Mendoza subsequently spoke from her desk as the Duchess of Sussex typed away on a computer in the background.
“Here is our very smart, only slightly nerdy digital team, making sure the website doesn’t crash again like it did last year,” Mendoza said.
The Clevr co-founder proceeded to walk through the office as Markle handed her a cup of the brand’s coffee.
“Finally, the glue that literally holds us all together,” Mendoza said. “Our incredible, resilient ops team that have helped make 2023 such a big success.”
A very busy-looking Markle strolled by and attempted to fist-bump an employee while clutching a folder and holding a phone to her ear. When she fumbled the gesture, she cackled and walked off camera.
“I want to give a huge shoutout to our amazing Clevr team here at HQ. Without them, we are nothing,” Mendoza began after posting the video on Instagram.
Instagram instantly flooded the video’s comment section to throw shade at Markle for her cringey acting in the coffee ad.
“Guess this is her doing her 1 hour a week of work. From representing the late Queen to a packer,” one hater wrote. “How the mighty have fallen. Love it 🤣🤣🤣.”
Another added, “Haha the Duchass 🤣 of Instagram, what a fall from grace.”
Other trolls called the cameo “desperate” and “cringey,” while one disappointed critic wrote, “From palace to this 🤦🏻♀️.”
However, not everyone found her horrible, some made light of Markle and called her entertaining while trying to get back into acting.
One fan gushed, “The glue that keeps it all together 😍😍😍 I’ve been glued to her since 2011 in her Suits days ♥️.”
Another fan of Markle commented, “Your HR department is doing a bang up job spotting talent! 😂”
Markle, an investor in the company, has been drinking Clevr for years and even appeared in one of the brand’s Instagram reels in February.
“Three years ago, everything changed,” Mendoza said in a video showing Markle sipping on the product. “None other than Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, had started drinking our lattes.”
“Not only did she love the product, but she was extremely passionate about supporting female founders, our sustainable sourcing and our food justice giveback,” she continued at the time. “Meghan ended up becoming our first investor, adviser and biggest Clevr advocate.”
The ad aired during recent rumors of Markle strategizing a Hollywood comeback into acting.
Markle and Harry have been living in Montecito, California with their two children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, since leaving their royal posts in 2020.
