Hootie & the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor drug charges in Tennessee.
Rucker, 57, was arrested on misdemeanor drug charges and is fully cooperating with authorities at this time.
Rucker, whose hits include Hold My Hand, Only Wanna Be with You and Let Her Cry, was booked into custody in his native Williamson County in connection with three misdemeanor charges, two of them drug-related.
Rucker was transported to a jail facility at 10 a.m. Thursday and bonded out for release at around 11 a.m. His bond was set at $10,500.
He was charged for three separate counts including; a pair of counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance; and a violation over his vehicle’s registration.
Rucker, who has reinvented himself as a country singer in recent years, spoke candidly about his past experience with substance abuse in a May 2013 interview.
“Doing drugs and drinking every night, I’ve done that,” Rucker explained honestly. “Trust me, I’ve done enough for everybody. And it’s just not how I want to live anymore.”
Rucker was involved in another drug-related controversy more than two years ago, when he commented on his ex-girlfriend Kate Quigley, 42, after she had been hospitalized in critical condition after a nearly-fatal overdose that took the lives of three other people.
In the September 4, 2021 incident, comedians Fuquan Johnson and Enrico Colangeli and a woman Natalie Williamson died after consuming what authorities said was cocaine laced with fentanyl at a home near Venice Beach, California.
Rucker is father to three children: He is father to daughter Carolyn, 28, with ex Elizabeth Ann Phillips; and to daughter Daniella, 22, and son Jack, 19, with ex-wife Beth.
