The son of Yankees legend and Marlins manager Don Mattingly was busted for drunk driving in Indiana, where he crashed his car and tried to sell it afterward, police said.
Jordon William Mattingly, 30, was arrested late Monday in Evansville, where cops said he crashed his car into a median while inebriated before driving to a local dealership and trying to sell it, the Evansville Courier & Press reported.
Mattingly, after crashing his silver Honda, was more than 3.5 times over the legal limit and blew a .291 when officers conducted a breathalyzer test, according to an arrest affidavit.
A witness reported seeing Mattingly’s Honda slam into a median at 70 mph before returning to the road. Minutes later, the driver was inside the D-Patrick Honda dealership appearing “super drunk,” while his car was missing a tire, according to the affidavit.
Mattingly, who reportedly had swelling and scratches to his shin and forehead, told cops he was at the dealership to sell his ride and pick up a new one. He also said, according to the affidavit, he had only “one drink.”
The damage to the Honda was caused by a pothole days earlier, Mattingly said. He then admitted having “a lot” to drink before getting behind the wheel, but insisted he didn’t hit anything on his way to sell his car, police said.
At least five people called 911 after seeing smoke from Mattingly’s car.
Donnie Baseball’s son also reportedly almost fell several times after getting out of his SUV. Cops said they later found cans of Four Loko and White Claw inside the vehicle, according to the station.
Mattingly, of Evansville, was taken to a hospital, where he allegedly declined a blood-chemical test before being transported to jail late Monday. He remained in custody early Wednesday on $1,500 bond, online records show.
Mattingly is facing two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and public drunkenness. It’s unclear if he has hired an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
A message seeking comment from the Marlins was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Jordon Mattingly is one of Don Mattingly’s three sons. Taylor Patrick Mattingly, 37, is also in custody at the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of domestic battery and court-ordered confinement, records show.
