It’s a sad day that great rapper, Coolio (real name: Artis Leon Ivey Jr.), has left us and passed away at the age of 59.
It was stated that paramedics performed CPR on Coolio for 45 minutes before pronouncing the rapper officially dead on Wednesday.
EMTs found no signs of life when they arrived at the scene, but administered CPR on the rapper before concluding it was futile.
Coolio’s manager, Jarez Posey, confirmed that the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper was visiting a friend’s home in Los Angeles on the day he died.
The friend franticly called 911 after finding Coolio unresponsive on the bathroom floor of his home around 4 p.m.
Coolio is suspected to have died of cardiac arrest, though his official cause of death has yet to be confirmed. Cops reportedly did not find drugs or paraphernalia in the bathroom at the time.
Several cells gathered on social media to share their condolences for their favorite rapper.
“This is sad news. I witness first hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry,” Ice Cube tweeted alongside reports of Coolio’s passing, adding “Rest In Peace.”
“I’m freaking out I just heard my good friend Coolio passed away,” Vanilla Ice, who toured with Coolio last year, tweeted.
Questlove shared a photo of Coolio, writing, “Peaceful Journey Brother.”
Actor Martin Lawrence added, “My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the family of @Coolio 🙏🏾 #rip.”
Coolio passed a few days after posting a video of his latest performance in Texas on Instagram.
The rapper launched into stardom in 1995 after the release of “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which was featured in the movie “Dangerous Minds.” The song earned him the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
