Kelsea Ballerini has opened up about calling it quits on her marriage to Morgan Evans, labeling the decision “rough.”
In August Ballerini confirmed she filed for a divorce from Evans after being married for nearly five years.
While promoting her new album, “Subject to Change,” 29-year-old Ballerini told CBS Mornings that her decision to get divorced didn’t happen overnight.
“I think when there’s a big life decision like that, it’s not a sudden one,” the “Half of my Hometown” hitmaker said. “There’s a lot that happens before that becomes public. So, I’m on my, like, active healing journey. A big part of that is showing up for this album and showing up for myself like I never have.”
“It’s rough, it’s not chaotic. It’s not, like, volatile, it just didn’t work,” she explained. “And that sometimes is like a difficult narrative to get your head around when you’re like, ‘Oh, my gosh. This is a good person. And I’m a good person. And this is just no longer good anymore.’”
She admitted that she’s really proud of herself for pushing through the challenges that the divorce threw her way.
“I’m a peacemaker. We’ve talked about this before. I’m a people pleaser. So, to do something that kind of goes against those two things is really difficult,” she said. “And I’m really proud of myself.”
Ballerini and Evans, 37, got married in December 2017 following their engagement one year before. For his part, Evans said via his own Instagram Stories that he was “very sad to confirm” the breakup.
