The new couple is taking the vow ‘in sickness and health’ very seriously after getting married.
Josh Duhamel had to go to the emergency room for a second time after his wedding to Audra Mari due to a horrible back injury.
“The next morning, after the wedding, I couldn’t get out of bed again,” Duhamel, 49, revealed on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Friday.
Duhamel added, “My wife nervously said, “‘Oh my God. Everything is fine here. This is, like, the first day of my marriage, and I’m wheeling my husband around in a wheelchair.’”
The couple who shares a 21-year age gap, Mari being 28-years old, has seen their fair share of differences according to Duhamel.
“I’m already way older than she is. It wasn’t a great start, but I was like, ‘Babe, for better or worse.’,” laughed Duhamel.
Just hours before walking down the aisle in September, Duhamel had to be taken to the hospital for the first time after he couldn’t get out of bed.
Mari said about the incident, “My groom threw his back out after pulling some will dance moves on a party bus the night before our big day.”
Duhamel shared with Clarkson, 40, on Friday just which dance move caused him to get hurt.
“They have those handles that you hold on in the party bus. I tried to do this thing like a gymnast, like, straighten myself out,” Duhamel explained, while extending out his leg. “So, I felt fine. I got through that night, and I wake up the next morning, two hours before the wedding, and I couldn’t get out of bed. I literally couldn’t stand up.”
Duhamel said he was able to get through the ceremony because he was drugged up on Toradol, an anti-inflammatory medication that reduces the hormones that cause pain in the body.
Despite her husband’s injuries, Mari still says she hold their wedding in her mind as a fond memory.
“I guess the romantic in me always feels like we’re just two small-town kids from North Dakota who found each other in Los Angeles,” the model told Vogue Australia. “But we will always always be home, no matter where we are in the world.”
