A former porn star, who has been in the game for years, was accused of sexually assaulting several women and is now being released from prison to a private residence as his health deteriorates.
Nearly a year after the charges were made, Ron Jeremy, 70, was granted his request to be placed in a private home to receive around the clock medical care by a California judge. The request came from Jeremy because no medical facility would willing take him in for care.
The Friday ruling comes after Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul Thompson shared the email with Jeremy’s victims, explaining that his medical condition has deteriorated to the point that he is essentially bedridden.
Thompson expressed dismay over the final stage of the case to Jeremy’s accusers, saying the ruling is beyond his control in the email.
“I feel very badly that this is where we are, but it is beyond our control. His mental and physical condition deteriorated rapidly, and we are left with no other options,” he wrote. “I’m sorry that we couldn’t get complete justice for you in court.”
Concerns over the accused rapist’s dwindling health concerns started when his criminal defense attorney, Stu Goldfarb, told a judge his client did not recognize him.
“He’s not competent to go on trial and he’s not been proven guilty, but he’s charged with a serious felony. What do you do with him?” Goldfarb said. “Most importantly, how do you protect the public, and equally as important, how do you protect his civil rights? He ends up in a facility that’s secure, so the public is not at risk and he doesn’t have to be housed in prison.”
Jeremy has remained in jail since his sentencing in 2020.
Jeremy, whose real name is Ron Jeremy Hyatt, was first charged with multiple counts of sexual assault in 2020 when four women accused him of attacking them in bars along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.
Then more and more allegations started coming out of the woodwork and dozens of women stepped forward accusing Jeremy go groping and rape. The accusations spanned over a decade, including an accusation that Jeremy committed a lewd act against a 15-year old girl at a party in Santa Clrita.
In 2021, 34 criminal counts were brought against Jeremy after 23 different women testified against him, with the oldest dating back to 1996.
The victims’ ages range from 15 to 51, with many accusing Jeremy of luring them into a small space, often the bathroom of a West Hollywood bar, and sexually assaulting them.
The Rainbow Room Bar & Grill was the former adult film star’s alleged hunting ground and is currently being sued by several women for negligence over Jeremy’s alleged behavior there.
In February, Jeremy was committed to a state mental hospital in California after Superior Court Judge Ronald Harris ruled him incompetent to assist in his defense.
“When he was arrested two years ago, I said he would be found innocent of all charges,” Goldfarb wrote in an email. “Two years have passed and with the additional discovery I received, I believed he would have been found innocent. It is unfortunate due to mental condition he will not go to trial and have the opportunity to clear his name.”
Despite all the charges, Jeremy denied all wrongdoing up until the point of him not being mentally stable anymore.
