Madonna’s new boyfriend, who is a boxer, might not even get a chance to enter the ring.
Josh Popper, who has been dating the pop superstar for nearly a year, is getting ready to make his professional debut.
However, the process has become quite an obstacle for Popper. Dating one of the most famous people on Earth has drawn a lot of attention to the matchup than most amateurs making the leap to prizefighting.
Popper, 30, was scheduled to have his first fight next month, but the transition came to a halt when he lost in his final matter fight to Miguel Matias in a unanimous decision Nov. 5 at the Sweatbox gym in Brooklyn.
Regardless, plans went ahead for his pro punch-up at the Sony Hall in Times Square Dec. 16, not least because everyone seems keen to capitalize on his girlfriend’s fame to goose ticket sales.
There were even plans underway for Madonna, who has a show at Barclays Center the same night, to catch his fight before heading across the bridge.
However, things have hit a brick wall once again for Popper. He applied to get his pro license, but a medical examiner found he has a scratched cornea and denied his license.
