Mariah Carey has decided to split from her longtime boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, after dating for 7 years.
Carey claims that their 14-year old age gap had a lot to do with their mutual decision. Carey, 54 and Tanaka, 40, called it quits due to him wanting to have children and create a family with the famous singer.
“He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at,” a source confirmed.
Carey already shares 12-year old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon. However, Tanaka does not have any children of his own yet.
Carey and her back-up dancer have been a lovely couple while dating, but many eyebrows were raised when Carey went on her annual trip to Aspen, Colorado solo.
Tanaka was also missing from her “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour that started in November at the Yaamava Resort & Casino in Highland, California.
Tanaka worked as a dancer with Carey starting in 2006 and they started dating in 2016.
“He wants to start having his own life,” another source added.
Carey further fueled speculation that the relationship was over when she publicly claimed she had a rough year.
“I’ve been looking forward to this Christmas for, like, the whole year. Since last year, because last year wasn’t the greatest,” Carey said. “I’m thankful for them all, but it wasn’t my most fun version of Christmas ever.”
Carey also vowed to “have fun” during the 2023 holiday season “come hell or high water.”
The ex-couple was last publicly seen together at Carey’s birthday party in March. Carey had broken up with Tanaka in 2017, but they ended up quickly getting back together.
